Save More Money on Online Orders

Online shopping is enjoyable for many reasons: you can avoid lines, no crowds, and it can even be done in your pajamas.  If you want to get the most out of your online purchases, here are some ways to get a discount.

Utilize Live Chat Services

Have you seen the chat boxes that pop up on some websites asking if you need help?  Open them and ask for savings.  You may have to search for a Live Chat option on the website but once you find it and reach a representative, express that you are searching many companies for the best deal and ask if any discounts are available or if there is free shipping.  You may not be able to get a discount, but going straight to the source is the best way to find out.

Find Coupon Codes

One of the best perks of shopping online is coupon codes, a phrase or string of numbers and letters that you can enter at checkout in order to get a discount.  Some sources to find coupon codes are RetailMeNot, ShopAtHome, CouponCabin and FatWallet.  If there’s a box for a coupon code, you know one is out there. Check some of these sites before purchasing your items to get the best deal possible.

Install a Browser Extension

You can save some time by installing an extension on your browser that will automatically search for savings for you.  There a few popular options such as Honey and Coupons at Checkout.  Or, resources like InvisibleHand are other extensions that search for deals while you’re shopping as they go through 600 retailers to check for better prices aside from the site you are currently looking at.

Let Items Sit in Your Cart

When you are shopping, put items in your cart and then leave the site.  It’s possible the company is tracking this, and later you will probably have coupon codes in your email enticing you to make the purchase.  Be sure you are logged into your account so the retailer knows you have abandoned your cart.  According to RatherBeShopping.com there are many major retailers who use this tactic:

  • 100DollarMall.com
  • Babies R Us/ Toys R Us
  • Bass Pro Shops
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • JCPenny
  • Jill.com
  • Kate Spade.com
  • Levi Store
  • Macy’s
  • Office Max
  • Proflowers
  • Purity Products.com
  • Shutterfly
  • Williams-Sonoma.com
