8 Ways to Start Saving for Your Summer Vacation

Now that the holiday season is over, these cold winter months start making us dream about summer.

It’s good to start planning your summer vacation around this time. By preparing ahead, you can save up enough to enjoy your vacation without debt. Here’s how:

1. Write Down Your Goals

First, write down your top choices for vacation destinations and when you’d like to go. From there, you can determine how much money you’ll need to save and how much time you have to accumulate it.

2. Set Up a Vacation Club Account

A Vacation Club account is a specific savings account designed to ensure your money will be safe until summer. Aspire Vacation Club accounts only need a $5 minimum deposit.

3. Research Vacation Rentals vs. Hotels

Renting someone’s beach home may be cheaper than staying at a hotel on the beach. You’ll also have access to a kitchen, so you won’t have to spend as much eating out. Start looking now for rental deals.

4. Use Your Tax Return

Instead of spending your tax return right away, allocate it to your vacation fund.

5. Be Smarter with Grocery Shopping

There are a number of ways you can save money on food, including:

  • Clipping coupons
  • Downloading a shopping app
  • Finding discount grocery stores
  • Switching to store brands

Do whichever is easiest for you.

6. Save Your Change

Instead of letting change accumulate in your purse, pocket, wallet or couch, set up a coin jar. You can cash it in right before you take your vacation for extra spending money.

7. Choose a Credit Card with Rewards

If you’re a smart credit card user and pay off your balance every month, a Rewards Credit Card is worth looking into. You can earn points for things like plane tickets.

8. Sell Old Electronics

If one of your new holiday gifts included a new computer, phone or tablet, look into selling your old one. You can use sites such as Gazelle, eBay or craigslist.
